Wilma Crabtree Snuffer, 98, of Christiansburg, Virginia peacefully passed into the gates of Heaven on December 23, 2025. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was born December 5, 1927, daughter of the late Grover and Elizabeth Compton Crabtree and grew up in Russell County, VA. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Jackson Snuffer of 54 years, brothers Wayne, Elkanah and George Crabtree, sisters Mabel Combs, Gaynelle Cook, Juanita Tiller and Ellana Crabtree. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Michael DeHart of Lake Wylie, SC. Also is survived by nieces and nephews, Kenneth and Caroline Cook of Moneta, VA, Lou Faye Holden of Atlanta, GA, Gary and Kathy Cook of Abingdon, VA, Kathy and Will Bolles of Lake Anna, VA, David and Donna Tiller of Shacklefords, VA, Denise Cook of Abingdon, VA, Jerry and Phyllis Crabtree of Cleveland, VA, Barry and Karen Crabtree of Redmond, WA and numerous great nieces and nephews, and many special friends.
Wilma attended High School at Oak Hill Academy. She graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Radford University in 1954.
She was an educator for forty-four years, seven years in Buchanan County, VA and thirty-seven years in Montgomery County, VA. She cared and loved each and every one of the students that she taught. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
Wilma was an active member of St Paul United Methodist Church and served on many committees and loved participating in church activities.
Wilma enjoyed entertaining in her home for family and friends on holidays and many special events. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean, Hawaii, and other favorite locations.
Wilma loved with her whole heart, and she will be so missed.
The family wishes to express appreciation to “Wilma’s Special Home Caregivers”, Elaine Clark, Jane Rivers, Dr. Charles Judy, Joseph C. Thomas Center staff, and ACG Hospice staff.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 am to 1 pm on January 3, 2026, at Horne Funeral Home. A celebration of Wilma’s life will also be held at Horne Funeral Home Chapel on January 3, 2026, at 1pm with Rev. Mike Derflinger officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
