Vera Richardson Hall of Shawsville, VA, born on October 25, 1941, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, at the age of 84 on October 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Vera retired as the secretary/bookkeeper of Shawsville Middle & High School, later known as Eastern Montgomery High. There are numerous stories of Vera’s compassionate heart for the children at the schools. She was known to have supplied lunch money, purchased uniforms, collected clothing for those in need and no doubt many other secret acts of kindness. She loved the Shawsville community.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Rosa Richardson; her infant son, Brian Scott Hall; and her nephew Larry Richardson. Left to cherish her memory, is her loving husband, Robert “Bobby” Hall; her sons and daughters-in-law, Robbie Hall (Sharon) of Christiansburg, VA, Ron Hall (Marti) of Wytheville, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Bradford (Danny) of Broadway, NC; grandchildren, Corey Hall (Jessi) of Fayetteville, WV, Hannah Eller (Eli) and Brandon Eller (Taylor) of Sanford, NC, Allison Buck (Aaron) and great-grandchild, Archer, her “Big Boy” of Wytheville, VA; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence Richardson (Barbara) and nephew, Samuel Richardson(Debbie) of Marietta, GA; special friends Alice Jewell and David and Kristi Loving, all of Shawsville, VA.
Vera was a vibrant, people person and was wonderful at greeting people as they arrived to church on Sunday mornings. She so enjoyed participating in the community outreach of the Bridge Church as much as the services. She was delighted to be a part of the team that built a house for Habitat for Humanity and she faithfully participated in packing bags of food for the local schools, to fight food insecurity, by providing weekend meals.
Vera loved being outside in the summertime. She loved flowers, mowing, feeding and admiring the hummingbirds. She delighted in baking for her family, friends and neighbors. Some of her happiest times were spent at Myrtle Beach with Lawrence and Barbara. She enjoyed reading and shopping and it made her heart full to give to those in need. The family will cherish their memories of the many cookouts and patio parties over the years.
Vera loved her family most of all. She spoke of the love story of her and Bobby and their timeless love. She was so proud of each member of her family and loved them wholeheartedly. She couldn’t bear to have a grandchild in pain and had been known to shed tears when they had their vaccinations. When Archer, her “Big Boy” arrived, it was such a delight for her to get in the floor and play with him. Recently, she was thrilled at the news that a “Little Boy” is on the way and told Bobby she was going to move to WV to be with him.
As per her wishes for no funeral service, the family will celebrate her life privately on her upcoming birthday. The family wishes to thank Good Samaritan Hospice, with special thanks to Leanne and Careosity Home Health, with special thanks to her buddy, Brittany.
The family suggests that donations may be made in Vera’s memory to St Judes Children’s Research Hospital or Good Samaritan Hospice.
