Shirley Stover Sizemore, 71 of Dublin, VA passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025. She is survived by her half-brother Harry Lester Jr. (Jeanette) of Powder Springs, GA, Rachel Lester (niece) of Nashville, TN, and nephew Grant Lester also of Powder Springs.
She was preceded in death by her mother Helen Harris Lester, stepfather Harry Theodore Lester Sr., grandfather Noah Harris, and grandmother Olivia Harris. Shirley grew up in Christiansburg, VA and graduated from Christiansburg High School where she was on the track team and a member of the 4H Club. She enjoyed collecting record albums and accumulated a vast collection. She had a great love for music and spent many hours listening and sharing her music with friends and family.
After destroying her mother’s clothes hamper with drumsticks as a teenager, her mother bought her her first set of drums. She could often be heard playing her drums to her favorite music in the back room of the house.
She worked at Hills Department store in the mid 70’s and later joined the housekeeping staff at a local nursing home. Shirley enjoyed people and was a good friend. She loved to laugh and reflect on memories she had with friends and family.
The later years of her life were spent in a rehab center due to physical ailments and declining health. While she was there, she continued to be a positive light to those around her, including her caretakers and fellow residents.
She will be buried at Sunset Cemetery next to her mother following a private graveside service.
