CHRISTIANSBURG

Sharon McGuyer Nowlin, a devoted stay-at-home mother and housewife cherished for her nurturing spirit and commitment to family, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026. Born on February 25, 1952, Sharon dedicated much of her life to raising her children and providing loving in-home day care, creating a warm and supportive environment for all who knew her.

A graduate of Christiansburg High School and New River Community College, Sharon’s early years laid a foundation for a life centered on care and devotion to those around her. Her love extended beyond her family to include her beloved dogs—a Borzoi, Afghan Hound, and Scottish Deerhound—which she proudly showed in the American Kennel Club. Sharon's fondness for collecting trinkets and selling old books reflected a keen appreciation for the small treasures of life. Additionally, she found joy and solace in tending to her many gardens over the years, cultivating natural beauty with patience and love.

Sharon’s life was enriched by the love and support of her husband, Trigg M. Nowlin Jr., and their blended family: Melvin Jackson, Amy Marshall, Monica Hunt and her husband Michael, and Marcus Nowlin and his wife Brooke. She also treasured her step-son Windell Hutchinson and his wife Barbara. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren—Ritchie Hutchinson, Destiny Hutchinson, Izzy Marshall, Marcel Bishop, Jaylan Bishop, Corey Hunt, Asia Hunt, Mason Hunt, Alexis Bentley, Raelynn Nowlin, Roselynn Nowlin, and Ryker Nowlin, and Alexis Neel—who were the light of her life. Sharon is also remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who valued her warmth and kindness.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father, George Lester McGuyer; her mother, Lela Holcomb McGuyer; her son, David Justin Bishop, son Jonathan Tucker Nowlin; and her grandson, Sydney Hutchinson.

The family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Radford, Virginia, for the compassionate care they provided to Sharon.

Sharon McGuyer Nowlin’s life was a testament to selflessness, love, and quiet strength. She will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
