Samuel Duke Raines, 77 of Elliston, passed away September 15, 2025. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Richardson; father, Samuel N. Raines; wife, Karen A. Raines; brother, Kenny Raines; daughter, Mary J. Raines; son, Johnny Dooley; and aunt, Edith Richardson.

Duke is survived by his children, Travis Raines, Karen L. Raines, Marjorie Beth Raines; son-in-law, Ed Fortune; grandchildren, Ashley Shook (Charles), Dakota Fortune, Brooke Fortune, Holly Fortune, Kyla Fortune, Octavia Fortune, Kaden Raines, Madilen Springer; great-grandchildren, Daniel Walton, David Shook, Mark Atwell, and Daisy Fortune. Also left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law, Cindy Turner; brothers-in-law, Chris Tatum, William Anderson; nephews, Cole Anderson, and Austn Raines.

Duke served in the United States Air Force. His hobbies included horseback riding, gardening, fishing, and cooking – he was the best cook. Duke dearly loved his family and friends.

Visitation is Monday, September 22, 2025, from 1-1:45 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. Graveside Services will follow in Sessler Cemetery, Elliston, at 2 p.m.

The family would like to thank the Elliston Rescue Squad and his sister-in-law, Cindy Turner.
