Sam was born on June 19, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Samuel W. Demme Sr. and Caroline Nelly Demme. Sam was married to Judith Demme for 62 years, who passed in October 2025. Sam is survived by his 3 children, Kimberly Hartsell (Michael), John Demme (Kalisa) and Eva Stoy (Andrew), 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Sam retired in 1996 after a 36-year career with Pitney Bowes Inc. where he started off as a Service Technician in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and retired as a District Manager in the Raleigh/Greensboro, NC district.
Sam’s love for his wife Judy and family was first and foremost. He also loved his car, 1990 Cadillac Allante which became his “pride and joy”. He attended several Allante rallies and drives. His “pride and joy” is now in the loving hands of his youngest grandson Logan. Sam had another great passion and that was being a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He owned a lot of Steeler memorabilia including one of the first additions of the Terrible Towel. Everyone knew he was a Steeler fan no matter where he lived or traveled. It was in his DNA.
The family wishes to thank everyone on the second floor of Lewis Gale in Blacksburg, VA who took such wonderful care of our father while he was there. We especially want to thank Jess (his last nurse), Dr. Cox, Nicole and Good Samaritan Hospice.
There will be a celebration of life held at a later date.
