On August 19, 2025, after a courageous 10 month battle with cancer, Sally Hager Cooke passed away at her home, surrounded by those who loved her.
Sally is survived by her three phenomenal daughters: Caroline Edwards, Susannah Edwards, and Georgia Cooke; her partner, Wade Carbaugh; her mother, Faye Myers; her sisters Liz Hager (Phillip Martin) and Susan (Dan) Klein; her brother Thomas Myers (Amy Phillips); and her nieces and nephew, Alaina & Allison Brauns and Henry & Alice Klein.
In her death, Sally reunited with her beloved Daddy (Stephen Hager) and Pop-Pop & Grandma (Harold & Alvene Scholtes).
Born in Buckhannon, WV, to Stephen Hager and Faye Myers (nee Scholtes), Sally was the second oldest of four. After a stop in Pennsylvania, the family moved to Blacksburg, where Sally made many lifelong friends. She then studied at East Tennessee State University where she met even more lifelong friends. After a stint in Texas, Sally returned home to Blacksburg where she welcomed the lights of her life - Caroline, Susannah, and Georgia. Eventually the family moved west to Pearisburg, VA. For nearly 10 years, Sally worked for Community Housing Partners in their Resident Service Department. Her dedication and advocacy for her residents eventually led to her leading the entire Senior Services team. There was no ask too big or feat too impossible from a resident or staff she supported - Sally always answered the call to do the right thing. The family is grateful for CHP’s support during Sally’s illness. Sally’s most important accomplishment and role was “mom.” You could count on seeing her in the gym coaching or watching volleyball and at the courts watching tennis. She volunteered regularly at the girls’ schools and taught them how to properly enjoy the beach - by hunting for shark teeth, the best shells, or small creatures. Sally exemplified motherhood and set an example for others. Sally had a magnetic personality and was loved by all who met her. She always made the room a little happier and a little more fun, oftentimes in the company of one (or many) of her besties, including Emily, Katie, and Brandi. A celebration of Sally’s life will take place at Horne Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Visitation will begin at 2 PM and the service at 3 PM. The service will be available online for those that cannot attend in person.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a fund supporting Caroline, Susannah, and Georgia. Donations can be deposited directly at Truist Bank (Account holder Faye Myers, zip code 24073) or sent to the family.
