Richard Michael Sumler, 61 of Radford, went to his heavenly home on April 10, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald R. Sumler; mother, Lucille M. Sumler; and brother, Steven W. Sumler.
Richard is survived by his cherished wife, Loretta M. Sumler; second mama, Louise Sumler; children, Chasity D. Sumler, Michael W. Sumler (Michelle); stepchildren, Desiree E. Hatcher (Isaac), Travis R. Hatcher (Kali), Randy Dickerson (Marilyn); grandchildren, Johnathan, Tylor, Bella, Bowan, Kellie, Katherine, Junior, Kendall, Paislyn; and siblings, Teresa Mills (Larry), Bobby Sumler (Phyllis). Other family left behind to cherish his memory are a very special niece, Breanna B. Huffman, whom he called his angel and whom he loved dearly; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elena M. Huffman, Robert W. Huffman; special friends, Jake, Matt, Blue, Ricky, Carl, Dakota, Rodney, Wanda, Junior, Jack, Lauren, and Chris; special family, Brian Sale, Tommy Harmon; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
University BP was his home away from home – he loved each of his work friends. Jake Whitt was one of Richard’s dear friends/son whom he loved dearly. Richard also loved his Dallas Cowboys, fishing, driving the wrecker/rollback, and music.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 12-1 p.m. at Open Door Baptist Church. Funeral Services will begin at 1 p.m. in the Church, with Pastor Mike Johnston and Pastor Vernon Dalton officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
