Olen Wade Gardner

Olen Wade Gardner 90 (born 8/8/1935) of Christiansburg, VA passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at English Meadows in Blacksburg, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katie Ellen Gardner; parents, Abner and Mollie Akers Gardner; 6 brothers; 2 sisters.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Frances F. Gardner; daughters: Ava (Joe) Porter, Lesa Gardner; son: Wade Gardner; step-daughters: Debbie (David) Graham, Becky (Scott) Stanley; grandchildren: Jason (Sherra) Price, Julie Moore, Dougley (Christine) McCallister; step grandchildren: Justin Harris, Travis (Jessica) Harris, Chris (Laney) Spencer; great-grandchildren: Piper (Jake) Clemons, Silar (Rita) Moore, Jasper Moore, Ryan, Brayden, Logan and Kellan Price. Step great-grandchildren, Bryce Harris, McKenzie (Chance) Gosney, Dakotah, Conner and Walker Harris. Olen has several nieces and nephews as well.

Olen was born and raised in Fancy Gap, VA. Lovingly called “The Legend” by many, Olen was a man of numerous talents, skills, and commendable endeavors. To name a few: husband, father, grandfather, clergyman, pastor, master craftsman, counselor, teacher, scholar, luthier and skilled blue grass musician. He was respected, admired, appreciated and loved by many.

The family will receive friends Tue. June 23 from 4-7 pm at Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg. The service will be held on Wed. June 24, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Cambria Baptist Church in Christiansburg with Rev. Keith Crowgey officiating. Burial at Sunset Cemetery will follow.

Flowers are appreciated; however, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Cure Alzheimer’s fund are encouraged. The family extends thanks to English Meadows for the excellent and compassionate care that was provided to Olen and to Gentiva Hospice for his end-of-life care and support.
