Odie Songer

November 10, 1946 — June 23, 2025

Christiansburg

After 10 long and brave years of battling dementia, Odie gained his wings peacefully in his sleep, with a smile on his face, surrounded by his wife, Debbie, and his special dog, Ginger Bug. Odie spent 58 years and three generations at Wade’s Supermarket. He enjoyed his customers and his lifelong friends. His love was evident in the many friends who came by to share old memories and spend hours with him, along with all friends and family from Abandonment Praise Church, Pastor Jerry Shepherd, and Jube Burk, and Cambria Pentecostal Holiness Church, Pastor Jason & Anna Vaughn.

Preceded in death by his parents Father Carl Lee Songer and Mother Pauline Price Songer Left to forver cherish his memory are his loving wife of 33 years: Debbie Crawford Songer. The family would like to thank Carilion Hospice care for the many hours that they spent with him. The care and dedication that Missy, his nurse, Rebecca, her helper Alexis, his Music Therapist, Kelly, his Message Therapist, the Clergymen, and Pollyann for all they’ve done for Odie and Debbie.

A very special thank you to Stewart Brown for the many hours of hard work and care. We could not have done it without him, and for the many times that he would drop everything and come running when his mom yelled for help.

A special note from Odie’s siblings: Dee (David): Odie always had a smile on his face. When you went to his house for a visit, he didn’t want you to leave. You could always count on him if you needed anything. He dearly loved his wife Debbie and his children. Linda: Odie was a wonderful brother who always put family first. He was happiest when his family surrounded him. I will miss his smile and his big hugs. I will miss him every day.

At Odie’s request there will not be any services. His wishes were to be cremated and have a Celebration of Life at his picnic shelter where he spent many hours enjoying life. The family will schedule the celebration later.
