Miller “Joe” LaRue, age 87, of Christiansburg Virginia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday May 13, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Lettie LaRue, brothers Roy and Claude LaRue, sisters Revie Connor, Ginger Brewer, Kathy Dowdy and grandchildren Samantha Ann Foster Casto and Eric Wayne Volner.
Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Wright LaRue, son Billy Joe LaRue, daughters Jane LaRue, Joy (John) Volner, daughter-in-law Maryann LaRue, 8 grandchildren (and spouses), numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren, sisters Anna (Jack) McCrickard and Debra (Junior) Merrix. Joe also is survived by two very special friends, Les Fisher and Dean Nunley.
Joe was an owner/operator and drove a tractor trailer most of his life, traveling all over the 48 contiguous United States. He received several awards for safety over the years and was a member of the million miler club. After retiring from trucking he drove a tour bus for Abbott, he enjoyed meeting and talking to all kinds of people. He also was a delivery driver for Shelor during his retirement.
Joe never met a stranger and could easily make friends. He loved to talk and tell stories about his adventures driving around the United States. In his spare time he loved to play the guitar, harmonica and played around with other musical instruments. He loved to work on different woodworking projects whenever he could.
Joe was a faithful member of Christian Growth Center and used his carpentry talents on multiple projects for the church.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday May 18, 2025 at 3:00 followed by a reception at Christian Growth Center 1850 Electric Way NE. Christiansburg, VA.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Christian Growth Center.
