Melissa Jane Davis, 59, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends.
A devoted Christian, Melissa found strength and comfort in God's Word, especially the Book of Psalms. Her faith guided her life and was reflected in her compassion, kindness, and unwavering willingness to help others.
Melissa dedicated her career to serving people through nonprofit organizations and the Department of Social Services. She earned an Associate's Degree in Information Technology and was only one credit away from earning a second degree. Intelligent, determined, and a lifelong learner, she was an avid reader who never lost her love of books and knowledge.
Above all, Melissa was a devoted mother and grandmother. As a hardworking single mother, she sacrificed endlessly for her family. Her greatest joy was her daughter, Sarah, and her beloved granddaughter, Dixie, whom she adored beyond measure.
Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Fred Gallimore Sr.; her brother, James "Jimmy" Warren Gallimore; and her nephew, Josh Warren Gallimore.
She is survived by her mother, Sarah Gallimore; her brother, Fred "Jr." Gallimore Jr. (Patty); her sister, Debi Cumbee (Frank); her daughter, Sarah Reed (David); her cherished granddaughter, Dixie Reed; nephews Jason Wood (Deborah), Logan Gallimore, and Kaleb Gallimore; niece Bonnie Gallimore; many great-nieces and great-nephews; dear friends Matt Walker and Juanda Snyder; special friends Woody Whittaker, Judi Simpkins, and Nikki Willis; and the Linkous family of Merrimac, lifelong childhood friends.
Melissa will be remembered for her faith, intelligence, generosity, and the love she gave so freely to others. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace with her Lord and Savior.
