Mary Alice Bowman

Mary Alice Bowman, maiden name Collins, welcomed the angels and her Lord on Saturday, June 7, 2025. She was born on Christmas Eve, 1935 in War, WV. Her mother Olga had four girls and two boys, Arthur, Mary Alice, Frances Ann, Harvey, Ruth and Carol. Her father Arthur was a bus driver while her mother raised six children. Alice married Gene Mills, and had one daughter, Jenny, who Alice lived with at the time of her death. Alice never met a stranger. She was open to anyone accepting them and loving them for who they are. She would hope we would all do the same. She had a rich work career, volunteerism, and church life. Alice was a member of the First Baptist Church of Martinsville. She was a part of a strong group of classmates from Big Creek High School who kept in touch throughout the years. Her partner Mert accompanied her on many adventures in life. She has numerous nieces and nephews, grand and great, from the Collins and Mills families, and a loving sister-in-law. She was a grandma to her pups. Anyone who knows her knows there is no space big enough to give honor to who she was. Information will be updated on her Facebook account about future events and gatherings in her honor. She wished no service at her passing. Special thanks to the wonderful women from Carilion Clinic Hospice who cared for her at her home, and the kind staff at Horne Funeral Home.
