Martha 'Mae' Perna Hylton

Martha “Mae” Perna Hylton, age 83, of Christiansburg, VA passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023. She was born August 31, 1939 in Missouri to the late Charles and Winona Skinner Perna. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Hylton. Martha is survived by her son, Mark Hylton and Jennifer Wade, daughter, Becky Presgraves and Dwayne Presgraves, grandchildren, Chelsea Hylton, Michal Hylton, Zachary Presgraves, Morgan Presgraves, and great grandchild, Rylie Hylton.

Martha stayed up to date on all the events going on in her family’s life. She was always bragging about her grandchildren and how proud she was of each one. You just had to ask and she would jump in with a story or share the latest picture.

She was a second mom to many. Everyone knew the door was always open and food was on the table. Martha enjoyed teaching Sunday school at Cambria Baptist Church during the early 1970s and thought of the youth group as her own children. She was so proud watching as the young people grew into successful adults and parents.

Even through many years of heart disease and many hospital visits she always tried to stay positive and push herself to enjoy life to the fullest. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Riverio for his many years of care. Martha was well loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted immediately following at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Crowley of Cambria Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Nettle Ridge Methodist Church Cemetery in Stuart, VA following the service at 3:45 pm.
