Lora Hollandsworth Gunter, age 93, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025.

Lora was born on March 2, 1932, to Ocie Ellar Phillips and Burman T. Hollandsworth. She was raised in beautiful Floyd, Virginia, and went on to graduate from Willis High School in 1949. After graduation, she moved to Christiansburg, Virginia, to work at Imperial Reading, where she met the love of her life, Sonny Gunter. Their partnership would grow into a remarkable 71-year marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and shared strength through life’s many seasons.

A member of Old Union Church in Indian Valley, Virginia, since 1966, Lora’s faith was the foundation of her life. It guided the love and care she poured into her family and everyone around her. She was known for her patience, her strength, and her unwavering kindness. To her grandchildren, Lora was more than a grandmother—she was an extra parent, a steady source of guidance, comfort, and unconditional love.

Through all of life’s ups and downs, Lora and Sonny cared for one another deeply. In her final days, even the simplest moments—just sitting together and holding hands—brought them peace and closeness, a testament to the bond they shared.

Lora was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Belva Hollandsworth and Helen Haynes; and her brothers, Alpha, Theodore, and Vernon Hollandsworth.

She is survived by her husband, Sonny Gunter; her daughter, Cindy Linkous; her granddaughter, Jessica Linkous, and her partner, Ryan Dong; her grandson, Jarred Linkous, his wife, Elizabeth, and their precious son, Oakley; and her sisters, Lena Duncan, Eloise Funkhouser, and Phyllis Boyd.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, 1300 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg, VA. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, and Lora will be laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery, 501 S. Franklin St., Christiansburg, VA.
