In Memoriam of John Paul Kietrys 06/22/1935-07/28/2026

It is with deep sadness to notify everyone of the passing of our beloved Father John Paul Kietrys, who died at home peacefully.  John lived most of his life in Hackettstown, NJ and then retired to Virginia, where he passed onto Heaven.

His life is not easy to sum up in a few paragraphs as he was a multi-faceted man, for people that knew him we hope your memories are joyous ones.
John was a true gentleman, a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and friend to many.  He was an avid reader and lover of books, and his vast knowledge of history was impressive. Never meeting a stranger, he could tell stories to entertain anyone and everyone.  He is a graduate of Hackettstown High School, class of 1953 and a Golden Gloves Boxer.  Sports was a big passion and he followed HHS Sports, college football and baseball his entire life.

John went to work for Hercules Powder Co. Kenvil, NJ as a young man and for many years held the Steel Workers Local 1282 as Union President. He was a proud union member and retired after 43 years. He also was an expert bartender and spent many fun times bartending at Webers, The Walnut Grove in Great Meadows and The Riviera.

John and Shirley Vreeland were married 1962 until her death in 2021. As for their children, we will never stop holding them in high honor as they were the best Parents any child could hope to have. Although death is extremely sad, we are comforted by the fact that our Father lived a full, long, happy life and will be forever grateful for the time we had.

John is preceded in death by his Parents Mary and John Kietrys, his wife Shirley Ann Kietrys (Vreeland), his Brothers Ronald and Raymond.
He leaves behind his children Kelley and Michael, their Spouses Doug and Amy, Grandchildren Bradley Wallace, John Michael and Casey Leigh Kietrys. Lots of extended family members and friends will miss him deeply.
