James Branard Flinchum Sr. was born on January 19, 1937. He passed into the loving arms of his Savior on April 30, 2025.
James was preceded in death by his wife Ruby Louise Flinchum; sister, Vinie Mae Andrews; brother, Wallace Henry Flinchum Sr.; step-sons, Michael Thompson, and David Thompson, as well as step-daughter Bonnie Thompson.
James is survived by sons, James B Flinchum Jr., Randy Flinchum; step-son, Steve Thompson. Also left behind to cherish James' memory are his sister, Mary Julia Harrell; brother, Raymond "Benny" Flinchum; and granddaughter, Paula LaRue; as well as 2 great-grandchildren, and 7 Step -Great-Grandchildren.
James grew up near Claytor Lake dam and graduated from Dublin High School in 1955. James worked several different jobs including positions at Hercules, Artex, and others. However, his favorite job was driving for Blacksburg Transit. James drove busses for ten years and loved every minute.
James was a lifetime Boston Red Sox fan, and his favorite player was Ted Williams. However, James' favorite hobby was loving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all of his heart. When James took his last breath here on Earth, he then took his first breath in Heaven in the presence of Jesus - what a reunion! Love you forever.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to those who took care of James in his final days, including Callie Smith, Kim Graham, Beth Shepherd, and Melissa Sheppard.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the New Hope Church of God. A Funeral Service for James will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 11 am at the New Hope Church of God, with Pastor T. Michael Bond officiating. Following the Funeral Service James will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Christiansburg.
