Harold V. Estes, 70, of Blacksburg, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025.
Born on February 10, 1955, Harold was the son of the late Lawrence and Lura Estes. A lifelong resident of Blacksburg, he dedicated 42 years of hard work and service to Poly-Scientific/Moog, where he was known for his reliability, integrity, and strong work ethic.
Harold was married to the love of his life, Ethel C. Estes, for 51 wonderful years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. Harold is survived by his devoted wife, Ethel; his daughters, Jennifer E. Gilley (Jerry W. Gilley Jr.) and Stacy Estes; and his cherished grandchildren, Ashley Estes, Joshua Gilley, and Luke Gilley. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Carter Todd Smith, born to Ashley Estes and her partner Daniel Smith.
He is also survived by his brothers, Dennis Estes and Larry Estes (Hope), as well as his niece and nephew, Brittany Estes and Michael Estes (Brandy); great-nephews, Colton and Corbin Estes. Harold’s beloved lap dog and loyal companion, Lilly Ann, was always by his side and held a special place in his heart.
Harold was a man who gave his all to his family. A devoted father and grandfather, he found his greatest joy in the company of his loved ones, especially his grandson Joshua, with whom he shared a special bond. Whether they were tackling projects around the house or working on cars together, the two were inseparable — learning, laughing, and making memories. When he wasn’t spending time with Joshua, he was with his “baby girl” Stacy, working on many projects together.
Known for his quick wit and playful spirit, Harold was a master of practical jokes — with his wife Ethel often being his favorite target. He loved to tell stories, offer heartfelt advice, and share his wisdom with those lucky enough to know him.
Harold was most at home in the great outdoors, but if he had to be inside, you’d find him watching Westerns or the Discovery Channel with Lilly Ann curled up on his lap. He especially treasured family gatherings at his home, where he could spend time with everyone he loved in one place.
Harold will be remembered for his generosity, humor, unwavering devotion to his family, and the joy he brought into every room. His presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
