Eloise B. Heslip

Mrs. Eloise B. Heslip, age 89, of Farmville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, following a long journey with dementia.

Born on January 6, 1937, in Montgomery County, Virginia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Jason Graham Bratton and Mattie Virginia Bratton of Shawsville, Virginia. She was also preceded in death by her son, Lewis "Big Lou" Heslip, who passed away on May 24, 2016.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Wayne Scott; daughters, Angela, Brittany, and Shannon; her son, Norman "J.B." Heslip and his wife, Scarlet Varner; her cherished grandchildren, Graham Burks Heslip, Mattie Kish Heslip, John Addison Heslip, and Mary Sidney Heslip; her brother, Bob Bratton, the beloved patriarch of the Heslip and Bratton family; and her niece, Dawn. Eloise shared with Bob a lifetime of love, laughter, music, unwavering faith, and treasured family memories.

Eloise was known for her strong work ethic and servant's heart. She spent many years at Rose Valley Grocery before beginning a long career with Hubbell Lighting, where she worked first as a line operator and later as a receptionist for nearly twenty years. After retiring from Hubbell, she enjoyed working alongside her daughter in the family's hair salon, where she continued doing what she loved most—visiting with people and making friends wherever she went.

A woman of deep Christian faith, Eloise was an active member of Garber Chapel Methodist Church in Christiansburg. She loved playing the piano, singing hymns, and sharing fellowship with her church family. Music was woven into every part of her life, and she always seemed to have a song in her heart, humming or singing wherever she went. Even as dementia slowly took away so much, her gentle spirit and warm smile continued to shine through.

During the last several years of her life, Eloise made her home at Heritage Hall in Dillwyn, where she was loved not only by her family but also by the many caregivers, nurses, staff members, and fellow residents whose lives she touched with her kindness and sweet disposition.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of Heritage Hall for the compassion, dignity, patience, and exceptional care they provided throughout her journey. Their kindness brought comfort not only to Eloise but to her entire family during a difficult season.

Eloise will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her joyful spirit, her gentle kindness, and the unconditional love she gave to her family and friends. Her life was a beautiful example of grace, perseverance, and quiet strength.

Though her voice has grown silent here on earth, her family finds peace in believing that her songs have begun again in Heaven.
