Clyde Frank Walters, 82, departed this life on May 27, 2024. He was born in West Virginia on October 18, 1941. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Goldie Walters; sisters, Janice Walters Harris, Peggy Doyle Hurt, Patricia Walters; brother, Lindy Doyle; twin brother, Cline Walters; grandson, Christian Settimi; and in-laws, Audrey Nelson Reed and Ellen Akers Reed. Clylde is survived by his wife of 21 years, Audrey Reed Walters; daughters, Rebe Thomas of El Paso, Texas, Stacy Franklin (Willem) of Saint Joseph, Missouri, Kellie Brown (Chris) of Kingman, Arizona, Crystal Green (Jeff) of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Eddie Walters (Angie) of Christiansburg, Virginia; step-children, Brian Walker (Leigh) of Riner, Virginia, Robert Walker (Julie) of Pilot, Virginia, Adam Walker (Cynthia) of Floyd, Virginia, Amanda McPeak of Floyd, Virginia; grandchildren, Ciara Dalton, Ryan Frazier, Kelsey Frazier, Aaron Franklin, Elizabeth Covey, Katie Walters, Dustin Brown, Alex Brown, Jacob Walker, Collin Pirdy, Casey Walker, Anthony Walker, Jessie Walker, Tyler Walker, Braydon Walker, Brantley Walker; great-grandchildren, Aspen Dalton, Beau Hall, Finley Covey, Braxton Hoke, and Lucy Fraizer; brother, Jimmy (Maria) Walters of Christiansburg, Virginia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Not long after the Walters family moved to Christiansburg, VA to raise their children as their family continued to grow. Clyde’s childhood was filled with days of helping his grandparents on their farm, mischievous adventures with his brothers and endless moments of love and laughter with his sisters. Clyde attended and graduated from Christiansburg High School in 1960. After graduation, Clyde worked as delivery driver for 7Up and high steel work, until he eventually joined the Army, serving over 10 years in the 82nd Airborne. Clyde’s time in the military allowed him to travel the world and see many places, such as Korea, Greece, and one of his favorites, Germany. Clyde eventually was transferred stateside where he me his 2nd wife and together they raised their four children in El Paso, Texas. Clyde was a Mason at Five Point Lodge in El Paso. He filled his days with motorcycle rides, evenings with dancing the two-step. Eventually Clyde and his wife parted ways and Clyde returned to his hometown of Christiansburg, Virginia, where he met the love of his life, his wife Audrey Reed Walters. Together they blended their families and lived happily. Clyde continued his love of dance and taught Two Step and Line Dancing throughout the New River Valley, fishing with friends and family, and bowling in multiple leagues. Over the years, Clyde and Audrey’s family grew with the additions of grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren, all of whom became Clyde’s greatest treasures and reasons for his continued joy. Clyde’s last days were filled with Audrey, all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren showering them with love. Clyde will forever be missed and will always be his family’s greatest gift.
Services will be held at Blacksburg Church of Christ, 315 Eaken St., SE, Blacksburg, VA, on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at noon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Virginia on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 3:00 pm.
