Cecil Lafayette Sutphin, also known as “Papa”, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather, was born on January 13th, 1926. He departed this life on October 12th, 2026 to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Margie of 74 years.

Cecil was born in Montgomery County to Kerry Eli and Bertha Luvenia Sutphin. At the age of 18 he served in the Navy during World War II. When he returned home he married his wife Margie and was blessed with four children.

Papa enjoyed NASCAR racing, raising hogs, gardening, and most of all loving and supporting his children and grand children in all their endeavors.

Papa’s 100 years of life here on this earth were full of love, hard work, and dedication to his family and friends. All who knew him knew him as the “friendliest man in Pilot”. He never met a stranger and was willing to help anyone in need.

Cecil left values, lessons, and memories that will never be forgotten and will forever influence all who knew him. He was truly one of a kind and his legacy will be carried on for generations.

He is lovingly remembered by his 4 children; Gary Sutphin (Janet), Sharon Tayloe (Alan), Rickey Sutphin, and Debbie Reed (Joe) along with 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. The immediate family will gather for a private service to celebrate Cecil’s life.

The family would like to say a special thank you to ACG Hospice, Salem VA Medical Center, and Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad in memory of Cecil.
