Billy Wayne Shepherd, Sr 83 of Salem received his reward when he entered the gates of heaven on July 8, 2025, after a long, hard fought battle with illness. Born on June 10, 1942, Billy lived a life filled with purpose, integrity, and a deep love for his family and community.
Billy dedicated thirty years of his life to Yokohama, where he served with excellence as a supervisor. His leadership and commitment were not only respected but also revered by many employees, who remember him fondly for his dedication and compassion. This spirit of caring extended beyond the workplace, reflecting his personal convictions and his steadfast faith as a member of Wabun Congregational Holiness Church.
An excellent mandolin player, Billy enjoyed the gift of music, often performing in various bluegrass and gospel bands, including Rhythm & Glory and Family Ties. His love for music brought joy not only to his own heart but also to the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to hear him play. He also cherished playing golf with family and friends, creating countless memories on the green that will be treasured by all who shared those moments with him.
Billy's legacy is enriched by the love of his dear wife Juanita Shepherd, with whom he shared a beautiful journey of 63 years. Together they nurtured a family filled with love and laughter. He is survived by his loving wife Juanita Shepherd, and by his sons, Billy Shepherd Jr. (April Garmon), Jimmy Shepherd (Tina), and Timmy Shepherd (Paula), each of whom carry forward his spirit and values. Billy is also survived by his younger brother Donnie Shepherd, his nieces Tammy and Christy, and Nephew Jason. He was a proud grandfather to Matt, Cameron(Katie), Brian (Caitlyn), Gabriella Shepherd,(Dillon Blackmon), and Benjamin Shepherd, and a devoted great-grandfather to Caroline, Grace, and Emory Shepherd. Billy's legacy of love extends to numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alva Shepherd, his mother, Frances Shepherd, his grandfather, Columbus Phillips, and his grandmother, Bertie Phillips. Their memory lives on in those who gathered together in love and support for one another, cherishing the values that Billy instilled in them.
Billy will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and as we reflect upon his life, let us carry forward the love he shared so generously. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the many contributions he made to our lives, and we thank those who provided kindness and care during his later years, including Lisa Baldwin, Sidney Lawhorn, and many others at Star City Rehab. Special thanks to Mike Walls, whose assistance over the many years was invaluable. An additional thanks for all of the prayers and visits from family and friends over the past year.
