Billy Ray Burke, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 6, 1932, in Pikeville, Kentucky, Billy lived a full and meaningful life defined by service, dedication, and love for those closest to him.
Billy proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 22 years, retiring with the distinguished rank of Chief Petty Officer. Following his military career, he continued his hardworking spirit as a restaurant owner, where he built lasting friendships and touched the lives of many in his community.
Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gladys Burke; his father, Sherman Burke; his mother, Trula Burke; his brother, Leroy Burke; and his sisters, Golddean Francis, Roberta Varney, and Dolores Robinette.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Kaye Rakes, and her husband, James Rakes; his grandchildren, Melisha Coleman and Gene Coleman and wife Tori; as well as what he lovingly considered a small platoon of great-grandchildren ranging in age from 33 years old to just 4 months old: Cierra, Allie, Matthew, Autumn, Matilda, Elijah, Ruby, Gavin, and Jocelyn. He is also survived by his great-great-grandchild, Liam. As well as many more nieces and nephews.
Billy had a passion for golf, bowling and auto restoration, finding joy in both the peacefulness of the course and the craftsmanship of bringing old vehicles back to life. Above all, he was known as a caring husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather whose guidance and steady presence will be deeply missed.
In his final days, his loyal fur companion, Trixie, remained faithfully by his side — a reflection of the love and comfort Billy gave so freely throughout his life.
Billy Ray Burke’s legacy of strength, kindness, and devotion will continue to live on through the family and friends who loved him dearly.
Memorial services will be held June 2nd at 3pm at the Veterans Cemetery in Dublin VA.
