Dr. Arcel P. Thomas transitioned to his heavenly home on October 10, 2026, at 94 years of age.  Dr. Thomas, throughout his life, was a kind and thoughtful person.

He taught for several years in the public schools of Virginia after receiving a degree from Lynchburg College. After receiving advanced degrees, a master degree from the University of Maine and a PhD. from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, he taught at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville and at the Temple University, Philadelphia.

Dr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Mathia Thomas; 2 brothers, Calvin and Cerry (Jabe) Thomas.

Dr. Thomas is survived by his sister and best friend, Loretta Eisenbeiss.

Funeral services will be on Monday, October 19 at 2 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Chapel with Rev. Leon Alley officiating. Interment will follow in Den Hill Cemetery.
