Vivian Harless 'Zeke' Scaggs

Vivian Harless ‘Zeke’ Scaggs, 89, of Riner, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2015. As a young man, Zeke achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, of which he was very proud. He left school to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII, later returning to finish high school and graduate from Bridgewater College with a BA in Economics. Zeke also worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for 37 years. He served in the Auburn United Methodist Church in any capacity they needed. He fully enjoyed his retirement working in his workshop making beautiful wooden clocks and furniture with his sweetheart of 67 years, Marie.

Zeke was preceded in death by his parents, Oakley Harless and Grace Vivian Beemer Scaggs; brother, Freddie Scaggs; sisters, Joyce Scaggs Crawford and Connie Ruth Scaggs. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marie Scaggs; children, Stephan Harless Scaggs and wife Wendy; daughter, Brenda Scaggs Bobbitt and husband Gary; grandchildren, Kyle Scaggs and Summer, Maggie Bump and Greg, Callie Bailey and Ricky; great-grandchildren, Aedan, Wren, and Rowan Scaggs, Riley and Will Bump, and Carter and Lacy Bailey; siblings, Rhudy Scaggs and Iva, Marlies Brantley and Duie, Carol Faye Waddell and Sonny; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Inez Scaggs, Ann Obenshain, Bunny Obenshain, Larry Crawford, and Johnny Morris; faithful caregivers, Crystal Black, Edwina Martin, and Linda Belcher; as well as good buddy, Richard Simmons.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 7, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Auburn United Methodist Church. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Church, with Rev. Scott Wilkes officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
