Susan Simpkins

SIMPKINS, SUSAN YOUNG, 52, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2006 at the Beulah House in Dublin with her family and friends by her side, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister and nurse. Susan was a dedicated nurse for 34 years. Her last job was head of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant for 19 years and was a nurse at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in the Emergency Department. She worked in the Radford Community and Carilion hospitals since the age of 16. Susan?s life was all about helping others, loving others and winning others to Christ. Preceding Susan in death were her grandparents, Hobert and Ruth Martin and Dewey Young. She is survived by a daughter, Kirsten Funk and son, Timothy McKenzie; her husband, Tommy Simpkins of Pilot; her parents Grady & Margaret Young of Dublin; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and David Queen of Dublin; brothers and sister-in-law, Jerry Young and Richard & Diane Young of Dublin; several nieces and nephews, and numerous special friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27 at the Horne Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Earl Hanks officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Memorials can be made to the
Beulah House, 4704 Caddell Lane, Dublin, VA 24084 or the American Cancer Society. The Simpkins and the Young families are being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, 382-2612.
