Samuel Snuffer

January 9, 1926 — June 2, 2005

SNUFFER, SAMUEL JACKSON (JACK), of Christiansburg, VA passed away June 2nd, 2005. He was born January 9, 1926, son of the late Dr. Perry L. Snuffer and Ruby Calaway Snuffer.

He was a World War II Veteran, having served in France, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Germany and the Southwest Pacific with Company K, 341st Infantry. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 59 and VFW Post 5311. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1954 with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Biology. He worked as a Sanitarian for four years in Louden County. In May 1958, began working for Virginia Mutual Insurance Company as Safety Engineer until his retirement in March, 1991.

Survivors are wife, Wilma Crabtree Snuffer; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Gregory Fitzpatrick.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at New River Valley Medical Center, Dr. Charles Judy, Carilion Hospice Services, Traci Burke, Jane Smith and Amy Hurt.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4th at the St. Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. David Goodpasture and Rev. Chuck McHose officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post #1184. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 220 West Main Street; Christiansburg, VA 24073; Carilion Hospice Services New River Valley, 707 Randolph Street, Suite 251, Radford, VA 2414 or Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24068. The Snuffer Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, (382-2612).
