Ruth Smith

Smith, Ruth Ella Young, 80, of Shawsville, VA, went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 24, 2011. She was born February 23, 1931 to the late Price and Ocie Mae East Young. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Willie Akers and Janie Akers.

She was a graduate of Auburn High School and retired from Donnkenny.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Frank Smith; children, Carl Smith and wife Mary of Christiansburg, Shirley Queen and husband Mike of Gastonia, NC, Ronald Smith and wife Pam of Christiansburg, and Janice Smith of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Dale Smith and wife Jennifer, Katie Smith, Megan Smith, and Hannah Queen; great grandchild, Cody Smith; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to Maxine Dudley for her care.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Duncan and Ronald Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
