Ruth Spencer Roop, 83 of Elliston, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 30, 2011. She was born on January 23, 1928 in Wythville, VA to the late Charles and Clara Coleman Spencer. She was also preceded in death by a great grandson, Brian Woolwine.
She retired as a nurse’s aid from Brookmeade Nursing Home and attended Radford Church of God.
She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Combs and husband Wesley of Elliston, VA and Patsy Adkins and husband Gayle of Pulaski, VA; grandchildren, Vicky Stazer, Debbie Burdette, and Teresa Whittaker; great grandchildren, Dawn Woolwine, Eric Burdette, Ashley Burdette, and Heather Custer; brothers, Garland Spencer, Junior Spencer, Charlie Spencer, Luther Spencer, and Johnny Spencer; sisters, Carlie Stump, Nancy Linkous, Ruby Rice, Martha Sefcik, Betty Clower, Linda Henderson, and Rhynie Jones; and many other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11:00 am from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Wanner officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
