Ruby Gibson

April 6, 1924 — October 22, 2013

Our precious sister, loving aunt, other mother, grandma Ruby, grandma Gibson, Ruby D. Gibson 89, of Christiansburg went home to be with the Lord and be with her husband on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Born in Indian Valley, Virginia in 1924 to the late Joshua and Hattie Duncan, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Warden Gibson; brother, Morris Duncan; sister, Essie D. Harris (Esmond); and nephews, Ray and Herbert Harris.

Her surviving relatives are: sister, Ethelene (Cline) Hollandsworth; sister-in-law, Greta Duncan; nephew, Bill (Alison) Hollandsworth; nieces, Nancy (Al) Hammond, Vicky Mendalhall, Karen Hurst, Bonnie (Bill) Simmons; many very loving great-nieces and great-nephews; along with great-great-nieces and nephews.

Ruby was retired from the New River Textiles in Radford, VA, and a member of the Bible Way Baptist Church in Christiansburg.

Ruby was fortunate to have so many close and caring friends - Joe and Debbie Batts, Jackie and Bob Shelton, Benita Dailey and the close friends of Bible Way Baptist Church.

The family’s gratefulness goes to Dr. Payne and his staff, the Montgomery Regional Hospital and Heritage Hall for the dedication of their profession.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 25, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dusty Etter and Pastor Kenneth Wells officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, VA.
