Rodney Guy Downs

Rodney Guy Downs, 86, of Shawsville passed away at his home on July 15, 2018. He was a longtime teacher with Montgomery County Schools with over 30 years teaching experience. Rodney was a veteran of the Korean war in the US Army.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Roderick Guy Downs and Alice Claugh Downs; and a sister, Dee Dee Cogan. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Shirley Gwinn Downs; sons, Jeff Downs and wife, Melissa and James Downs and wife, Kristine; grandchildren, Shannon Downs and Adam Downs; brother-in-law, Phil Cogan; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 19, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow in the church sanctuary at 1 p.m. with Rev. Robert “Bob” McLavey officiating. Military graveside honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
