Robert Duncan

November 30, 1932 — April 5, 2011

DUNCAN, ROBERT CARLTON “CORKY”, of Christiansburg, VA, made his journey home on April 5, 2011, after a brief battle with heart disease.

Corky was the previous co-owner and manager of Bills Used Parts until 1995. Upon the sale of the business and long deserved retirement, he devoted his life to his true passion - his family, friends, farm and the outdoors. Corky enjoyed raising beef cattle, racking horses, vegetable gardens and apple orchards.

As the avid sportsman, he enjoyed the sounds of his beagles running deer, the camaraderie of his hunting buddies and the atmosphere of hunt camp.

To his friends and neighbors, Corky afforded an unparalleled commitment, dedication and value. However, his true commitment and purpose was to his family and to be a well-providing husband, father and grandfather.

Preceding Corky in death were his parents, Riner D. & Ruth M. Duncan; first wife, Joanne Benson Duncan and his son, Carlton Benson Duncan.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Wilma Hamblin Duncan; daughters and sons-in-law, Renee & Steve Myers and Michelle & Robert Doherty; son, Robert Stacey Duncan; brother & sister-in-law, Riner D. & wife Catherine Duncan, Jr.; brothers & sisters-in-law, William & Donna Hamblin and Jean & Paul Wilson; granddaughters, Lezlie and Kaitlin Myers and Megan Doherty; and grandson, Ryan Doherty. Corky was a Veteran of the United States Army, a member of the Christiansburg Hunt Club and the Carroll County Wagon Train.

The family will receive family and friends at Horne Funeral Home on Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 5-8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011, at 11 am in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gina Rae and Rev. Neil Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Sunrise Burial Park, Fairlawn, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Flying Changes of VA (horse therapy for children), www.flyingchanges.net , 870 Montgomery Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
