Richard Burke, Jr.
October 29, 1952 — June 5, 2013
Richard F. Burke, Jr. (Tiny), 60, of Shawsville, formerly of Salem, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal and maternal grandparents; a sister; and several cousins. He is survived by his girlfriend, Marna Akers; son, Jeff Burke; daughter, Sarah Burke; sister, Katie Moushigan & husband Rich; niece, Kate Walker; nephew, Burke Walker; and very special friends, Michael Brown and Chuck & Donna Lazenby.
Richard enjoyed playing drums and was in several bands in the Roanoke area. He drove a dump truck for a number of years. He was a member of Mountain Top Mission and read his Bible everyday.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Lewis Gale Hospital who took care of him. Thank you for the calls, visits and prayers from our friends and family, and a very special thank you to Bill Ryan (Richard’s cousin) for the plot and taking care of interment for Richard.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 12 noon in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Virgil McHone officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Vause Cemetery, Old Town Road, Shawsville. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Richard’s memory to your local animal shelter.
