Peggy Combs Wood

Peggy Combs Wood, age 61, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday August 13, 2017, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. She was born in Bristol, VA on August 19, 1955 to Wilma Jean and the late James Worley Combs, Sr. She is a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church and served as the Vice-President of the Riner Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, as well as Conductress of the Virginia State Firefighters Association Ladies Auxiliary. She worked at Corning in Christiansburg for 17 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, and her loving husband of 29 years, Glenn A Wood. She is survived by her sons, Jonathan C Evans of Mechanicsville VA, Christopher J Evans and wife Theresa of Glen Allen VA, and SSG Darren B Wood, US Army and wife Emily in active duty military; grandchildren, Adrianne, Will, Matthew, Kaylee, Alexandra, Quinton, and Aedan; sister, Joy Krantz and husband Frank of Bristol VA; brothers, Jay Combs and wife Mary of Edison NJ, and Rick Combs and wife Sherrie of Bristol VA; mother-in-law Alzora Wood of Floyd VA; sister-in-law, Joyce Wood Gardner and husband Don of Floyd VA; loving friend and caregiver Annette Cooper; several other extended family members, church family, fire department family, work family, and close friends.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Auburn Baptist Church in Riner VA. A Funeral Service will follow at 7 p.m. Procession will begin at Horne's Funeral Home in Christiansburg on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11 a.m., with the Graveside Service to follow at 12 noon at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd, with Pastor Mike Vest and Rev. Neal Turner officiating.
