BISHOP, OAKIE THOMAS, age 91, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, October 9, 2006 at Radford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Floyd County to the late Thomas Acie and Dessie Shelor Bishop. He was a retired shoe cobbler in Montgomery County.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Wilma P. Bishop; son Mark T. Bishop and special friend Carolyn J. Ruble; daughter, Roberta Bishop Poole all of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Carmen Poole Hammack & Phillip, Christiansburg; Carson T. Poole & Sylvia of Radford; Antoinette B. St.Clair & Terry of Christiansburg; great grandchild, Tristan C. Poole; step grandchildren, Jeremiah Simmons and Jacob Simmons; nephew, Ed & Vickie Sumner; nieces, Maybelle R. & Winston McNeil; Diane & Ty Trenor; numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12th at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Sam McCracken and Mr. Stephen Jayne officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted however, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24068. The Bishop Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, 382-2612.
