Mary Carrie Maxey Dunn, 77, of Elliston, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Maxey; father, Johnny Maxey; step-mother, Helen Maxey; brothers, Muriel Wirt, Jerry Maxey, and Wayne Wilson; and sister, Jeanette Mills. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Andrew Dunn; son, Darryl Dunn; daughter & son-in-law, Teresa & Matt Carroll; her pride & joy - granddaughter, Lynette Nicole Carroll; sisters, Barbara Irby and Torri Mills & husband Bruce; sisters-in-law, Sandy Maxey and Elta Wilson; brother-in-law, Irvin Mills; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Carol Ballard and Carilion Hospice for the care provided to Mary.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 10th, at 11 a.m. in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mary’s name to the The Gideons International, Christiansburg Camp U45034, P. O. Box 366, Christiansburg, VA 24068 or to the Shawsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 14, Shawsville, VA 24162.
