Marvin Harris

Harris, Marvin Taswell, 83, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010. He was born July 4, 1926 in Floyd County, VA to the late Wyatt Lee and Mammie Elizabeth Akers Harris. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alma Gay Harris and Lessie Smith.
He served his country in the United States Army. He was a Sergeant for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office prior to retiring from Virginia Tech as a locksmith. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evelyn Moore Harris; son, Kevin W. Harris and wife Susan Duncan Harris of Childress, VA; granddaughters, Emily Nicole Harris and Lyndsay Elizabeth Harris; nieces, Norma Bobbitt of Hillsville, VA and Rebecca Smith of Christiansburg, VA; nephew Harold Smith of Christiansburg, VA; and his beloved cat “Ling–Ling”.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 3, 2010 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted following the visitation at 6:00 pm with Pastor Kathy Hale officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 10:00 am.
