Marietta Love Walker Stallard

Marietta Love Walker Stallard, age 89, of Blacksburg Virginia left her earthly struggles behind on Friday December 24, 2021. Marietta was born on April 23, 1932 in Houston Texas to the late Richard M. and Annie Sparger Walker. Growing up in Houston with two brothers and an older sister taught Marietta to be strong, steadfast, determined and independent. These traits lead Marietta to join the United States Army where she ultimately met the love of her life and soon to be husband, James Henry Stallard, Sr. Marietta and James (Jay) settled in Houston and started their family eventually having a daughter and three sons before deciding to move their family to Montgomery County Virginia.

Marietta worked for the United States Postal Service while her children were in school but she remained a doting mother nonetheless. Marietta loved her children and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren with a passion that was undeniable. Her smile and the sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes will be missed by many.

Marietta was preceded in death by her husband James Henry Stallard, Sr., her parents Richard M. And Annie Sparger Walker, her parent-in-laws Lafayette and Avanelle Stallard, her two brothers and their wives Cloyce and Joyce Walker, Bobby and Bessie Walker, her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Douglas Beggerly, a son Robert Hayden Stallard and a grandson Joshua Ryan Bond.

Left to treasure her memory are a daughter Jayleen Stallard-Bond, Oklahoma City, Ok, two sons James Henry Stallard, Jr. (Christy) Dublin, Va., Steven W. Stallard (Arnita) Christiansburg, Va. And a daughter-in-law Janet Stallard-Jackson (Skip) Elliston, Va. Six grandchildren Jeremy Bond, Amanda Stallard Reid, Misti Stallard, Travis Stallard, Hunter Stallard, Jennifer Stallard Lilly. Fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter Payton Stancil.

Marietta requested no public viewing or funeral service but to be cremated and her ashes be placed beside her late husband in Echols Family Cemetery in Ironto Virginia. A private family memorial will be scheduled at a later date to accommodate her wishes.
