Marie Obenshain Scaggs

Edith Marie Obenshain Scaggs, 90, of Riner, joined her sweetheart on Thursday, September 8, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Zeke Scaggs; parents, Kyle and Lillian Obenshain; brothers, David and Jonathan Obenshain; and sister, Jane Morris. Marie is survived by her children, Stephen Scaggs and Wendy, and Brenda Scaggs Bobbitt and Gary; grandchildren, Kyle Scaggs and Summer, Maggie Bump and Greg, Callie Bailey and Ricky; great-grandchildren, Aedan, Wren, and Rowan Scaggs, Riley and Will Bump, Carter and Lacy Bailey; sister, Ann Obenshain; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bunny Obenshain, Johnny Morris, Rhudy Scaggs and Iva, Marlies Brantley and Duie, Carol Faye Waddell and Sonny, Inez Scaggs, Larry Crawford; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as faithful caregivers, Crystal Black, Edwina Martin, and Linda Sawyer, who treated them like family with love and respect.

Marie served the Lord and loved her family. She was a thrifty housewife who could pinch a penny until it screamed. Her flowers and vegetables were a lifelong love. She could cook like nobody’s business. She was a tireless worker; be it quilting, knitting, or helping her Zeke. If he was working in his shop she was sanding; if he worked at church she was his helper. For over 67 years, through thick and thin they were a team. As a Mom, there could be none better.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 11, 2016, from 4-6 p.m. at Auburn United Methodist Church. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Church, with Rev. Steve Aker officiating. Interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery.
