WOOLWINE, MADELINE COVEY, age 93, of Christiansburg, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008, at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center.

She was born in Pulaski County, VA, August 9, 1914, the daughter of the late Millard and Nan Covey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert “Ab” Woolwine; a sister and brother-in-law, Rudolph and Eunice Covey, brothers, Curtis Covey and Melvin Covey.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy W. and Bill Miller; sons and daughters-in-law, James “Jim” and Eva Woolwine, Robert “Bob” and Carlene Woolwine; and a sister-in-law, Jean Covey; grandchildren and spouses, Steve and Sheila Miller, Marion, VA, Ken Miller, Mechanicsville, VA, Thomas and Delina Miller, King, NC, David Woolwine, Chicago, IL, Mike and Candy Woolwine, Roanoke, Karen Woolwine and Barry Johnson, Roanoke; step grandchildren, Bobby Smith and Rodney and Lisa Smith of Christiansburg; great-grandchildren, Stacy Miller and Adam Burchett, Marion, VA, Brian and Shannan Miller, Bristol, TN, Allison Miller, Johnson City, TN; Brady, Brett and Bryce Woolwine, Roanoke, Carter, Tyler and Haley Johnson, Roanoke, Charles and Lauren Miller, King, NC, Morgan and Madeline Miller, Mechanicsville; great-great-grandchildren, Raegan and Caden Burchett, Marion, VA, Riley and Reed Miller, Bristol, TN. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was an active member in her church, Cambria Baptist. As her children grew she was active in the PTA, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts and supportive of all their activities. She was active in civic organizations: Christiansburg Life Saving Auxiliary, Red Cross, Senior Citizens Athletes winning numerous ribbons and medals on the local, state and national levels. She was a retired employee of Leggett Department Store.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 Tuesday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, at the Cambria Baptist Church at 12 noon with the Dr. Rev. Thomas Harvey and Rev. Terry Covey with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family request that gifts, in memory of their Mother, be made to Cambria Baptist Church Building Fund or the Christiansburg Life Saving Crew.
