ATKINSON, LUCY LENA (GREGORY), age 96, of Shawsville, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 29, 2008.
She was born December 6, 1911 in Appomattox, VA. Lucy was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend. All who knew her will miss her beautiful blue eyes, loving smile and sweet laugh.
She was preceded by her parents; Ira Sanford and Cornelia Ann Gregory, husband, Robert Everett Atkinson; brothers, Bill, Jamie and sisters, Florence, Alice and Susie.
Lucy leaves behind to cherish her memory her children; Garland Atkinson and wife, Pauline, Howard Atkinson and wife, Linda, Jack Atkinson and wife, Betty, Vivian Semones and husband, Dale, Dick Atkinson and wife, Kay, Phyllis Epperly and husband, James, Mack Atkinson and wife, Ilse Allen and wife, Corinne, Connie Hall and husband, Glenn, and Deborah A. Davis. Lucy was also blessed to have sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren; sister, Estelle Porter and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, a very loving and special caregiver, Phyllis Alderman.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1st at the Horne Funeral Home, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2nd in the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor Mike Vest and Pastor Tommy Shafer and Pastor Ben Whitaker with interment to follow in the Barnett Cemetery, Shawsville.
