May 5, 1913 — March 12, 2006

SHORTT, LOTTIE HILDRETH, age 92, a long time resident of Christiansburg, died peacefully at Heritage Hall Nursing Home on Saturday, March 11, 2006.

Hildreth was the daughter of Prince E. Shortt and Annie Eugenia Watkins Shortt, both of Floyd County. She moved with her mother to Christiansburg in 1918, after her father?s death. Together, she and her mother lived and cared for each other until her mother?s death in 1981. She lived in the same house on First Street for eighty-four years. For the last three years of her life, Hildreth lived at English Meadow and Heritage Hall Nursing Homes as her heatlh became progressively worse. Hildreth had worked over the years at Radford College, Virginia Tech, and as her final employment, been a Librarian for the Montgomery County Regional Library. She was a long time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she played the piano for various church groups and activities. For a number of years, Hildreth was the accompanist for St. Paul?s Joy Singers, an outreach musical group to local nursing homes. Hildreth was an avid reader and especially enjoyed stories of faith and inspiration. In her own quiet way, she inspired others by her simple life style and faithfulness to her church and friends.

She is survived by a number of cousins and other relatives. There will be a Memorial Service for her at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, conducted by The Rev. Dr. David Goodpasture and The Rev. Chuck McHose. Visitation will be at the Church an hour before the service for family and friends. The graveside service will be at Sunset Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial gifts may be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church. The Shortt Family is being served by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg, (382-2612).
