Lois Spicer

June 7, 1917 — April 9, 2009

SPICER, LOIS DEVOTA DUDLEY age 91, of Christiansburg, entered into eternal rest on April 9, 2009, at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

She was born June 7, 1917, the daughter of William Courtney Dudley and Mary Albert Dudley Gentry. Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Allen Spicer, a daughter Mary Devota Spicer, an infant grandson Michael John Dickerson and her three brothers, William C. Dudley, Jr., Arnold A. Dudley and Richard F. Dudley.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Eunice and Julius Dickerson, Floyd, VA, Bobby and Charlton Cromer of Christiansburg; her granddaughters, Mary Caitlin Dickerson and Leah Catherine Dickerson, both of Floyd; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Dudley, Williamsburg, VA and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

The pride of Lois’s life was her family and being a homemaker. She loved to cook and especially enjoyed baking pound cakes, which she generously shared with her many friends and neighbors, Lois’s sweet, kind caring nature, and genuine concern for others will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her, she was “Mama Lois” to many. The family wishes to express their deepest and heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff on the Second Floor of Montgomery Regional Hospital, where she was affectionately known by all as “Momma Spicer”, and at Heritage Hall Rehabilitation Center for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends from 5 pm until 8 pm on Sunday, April 12th at the Horne Funeral Home and at other times at the Spicer residence. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, Apr. 13th at 2 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Christopher Yopp, Rev. Edgar R. “Bobby” Sutphin, Pastor James Burke, and Rev. Jim Bayne with interment to follow in the Belmont Cemetery.

Flowers will be appreciated; however those wishing to remember her may do so by making a contribution to the Memorial Fund at Edgemont Christian Church, 2289 Edgemont Road, Christiansburg, VA 24073.
