Leo Stanger

March 30, 1928 — August 13, 2004

STANGER, LEO S., age 76, of Christiansburg passed away Friday, August 13, 2004 at his home.

He was a post World War II veteran serving his country in the Navy. He was retired from Hercules, Inc. (Radford Army Ammunition Plant) after forty-one years of service, and he also served as Captain of the Security Police Department. He was a member of the Belmont Christian Church, McDaniel Lodge # 86 AF & AM, McDaniel Chapter # 47 OES, Scottish Rite, Kazim Temple Shriner's.

The son of the late William Guy and Anna Lura Boothe Stanger he was preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Faye Hornbarger; brothers, Billy Nelson Stanger and Delmer Guy Stanger. He is survived by his wife Mabel Lee Linkous Stanger; children and spouses, Glenn Merle Stanger and Doris Phoenix, Jennifer Lynn Brumfield and Gary L. Brumfield, David Guy Stanger and Anita Massey Stanger; grandchildren, Gary Lee Brumfield, II, Shannon Brumfield Patrick, Bethany Ellen Brumfield, Tina Marie Stanger, Jason Merle Stanger, Matthew Nelson Stanger, John David Stanger, Faith Emily Stanger; brothers, Joe Curtis Stanger; Harry Hansford Stanger, sister, Yvonne Stanger Silvers; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 til 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16, at the Belmont Christian Church conducted by Mr. Jim Bayne, Mr. Bobby Sutphin and Pastor Jerry Dowdy. Interment will follow in the Belmont Community Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites provided by McDaniel Lodge # 86 AF & AM, and military honors provided by VFW Post 1184, Pulaski, VA. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Shriner's Children Hospital, c/o Kazim Shriner's, 628 West Campbell Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24016 or Belmont Christian Church, 2149 Dominion Drive, Christiansburg, VA 24073. The Stanger family is being served by Horne Funeral & Cremation Service, Christiansburg, VA (382-2612).
