Lawrence Wayne (Larry) Collins, 75, of Christiansburg, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012.

Larry was born November 6, 1936, in Pembroke, Va. He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Eunice Collins; and brother, Conrad Collins.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bertie Sadler Collins; 4 children, Sandra Stark & Gary Van Auken, Yvonne Bryan, Mark Collins, Anthony & Janice Collins; his loving grandchildren, Gary Wayne & Debra Stark, Angelina Bryan, Michelle Stark, Jessica & Josh Aydlette, Johnathan & Lauren Collins, Anthony Collins and Joey Gusler; along with 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Dale & Roma Collins; and sisters, Edna & Allen Lawson and Talma Furrow.

Lawrence’s life opportunities began with a 20 year military career serving 3 years in the US Marine Corps, followed by 17 years in the US Navy. His proud service provided the opportunities to travel the world and bring back numerous stories and anecdotes to share with family. Larry’s second career in retail concluded managing the Exxon E-Z Stop in Radford for 16 years. In later years he found enjoyment having grandchildren and great-grandchildren around, along with the simple pleasures of fishing and woodworking.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 11, 2012, from 3-5 pm at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 12, at 11 am at the Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Kenny Park. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.
