Judith Kooistra Schneck

December 8, 1940 — July 3, 2021

Judith Kooistra Schneck was born on December 8, 1940 and died on July 3, 2021. Judi’s 80 years were filled with music, family, and service to others. Judi attended the University of Arizona and Radford University. She served her community as a Rotary International member and chapter president, a P.E.O. sister, and as a frequent Radford Hospital and Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program Thrift Store volunteer.
Judi was an accomplished violinist, performing with numerous symphony orchestras in New York, Ohio, and Virginia. She was a dedicated ambassador of music who taught countless students through private lessons and the Blacksburg New School music program. Judi founded the Alleghany String Quartet with her husband Dan, participated in the Summer Musical Series,
and was responsible for bringing many musical performers, programs, and opportunities to the region.
Judi was a giving and caring woman who had a great interest in everyone from friends to strangers and was driven to make everyone feel at home! Appropriately described by her husband, Dan "There's a Yiddish word - balebosteh," he explained. "It means a woman who makes a home a home.”
A devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Judi was preceded in death by her cherished husband of over 50 years, Dan Schneck. She is survived by daughter Cyndi Klein and her husband Tommy, granddaughters Danielle and Marlee Klein, daughter Patti Rowland and her husband Geoff, grandsons Aist and Julion Rowland, sister Lois Hurd, brother Davd Kooistra, nephew Jody Kooistra and family, sister-in-law Dorita Berger, niece Carylin Riak, niece Sabrina Kuratana and her husband Joe and their three children.
A private memorial service for the family is planned. Friends are invited to share personal memories, anecdotes, or thoughts about Judi at http://www.hornefuneralservice.com/obituaries .
