John Shelor

Shelor, John Lewis, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010.

He was born on January 31, 1926. He was born and raised in Floyd County, he went off to war in 1944 and served in the 801 first tank destroyer division. Following the war he returned and attended VPI & SU briefly before marrying, starting a family and establishing a car repair shop.

In 1957 he started a 17 year career with Chevrolet which took him to Roanoke, Richmond, and Severn Park, MD. In 1974 he started his business career, establishing Shelor Cheverolet which has evolved today into the Shelor Motor Mile.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.E. and Elizabeth Shelor; brothers, Charles K. and Frank Shelor; sisters, Mary E. Pilson and Virginia Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Isabel Gallimore Shelor; daughter, Jane S. Baker, of Christiansburg, VA; sons, Larry Shelor and wife, Karen, of Christiansburg, VA, David Shelor and wife, Shelly, of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Steven Baker and wife, Debbie, of Christiansburg, VA, Robin Leonard and husband, James, of Roanoke, VA, Scott Baker and friend, Tracy, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Monica Shelor and Ryan Shelor, of Christiansburg, VA, Phoebe Isabel Shelor and Griffin Shelor, of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren, Sidney, Grayson and Maddox Baker, of Christiansburg, VA, Tyler, Ethan, Kyra and Alyssa Leonard, of Roanoke, VA; sister-in-law, Ileda Shelor, of Floyd, VA; brother-in-law, Jack Smith, of Radford, VA; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 15, 2010 from 5p.m.-8p.m. at The Horne Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Horne Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Hebron Quesenberry and Pastor Marvin Wade officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, VA.

Friends and family are invited to join the family at The Event Center on Roanoke St, Christiansburg, VA following the interment, for food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Christiansburg Fire Department, 110 Depot St. Christiansburg, VA 24073 or Christiansburg Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 176, Christiansburg, VA 24068 or to Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, 409 Ridgeview Road, Floyd, VA 24091.
