John Parkerson

August 10, 1940 — March 29, 2014

John B. Parkerson, 73, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on March 29th at home.

John was born at home and raised in West Palm Beach, FL. He attended St Ann’s School and then attended high school in Hopewell, VA. He went to University of Buffalo and played football there. At the age of 19, John joined the Marines and was his title was Anti-Tank Assault man as well as having the unenviable task of laying mine fields in Cuba. In August 1965, he was transferred to Marine Corps Reserve, and was honorably discharged. His badges included: Rifle Marksman and Pistol Sharpshooter. He spent most of the rest of his years building and creating with his hands. He did construction on high rise facilities as well as adult assisted living communities, mostly in the South Florida area.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Kathleen Hammond; son, John Paul of West Palm Beach, FL; daughter Bianca Washabaugh and wife Meghan of Woodstock, GA; step-son Ted Hammond and his wife Morgan, step- daughter, Mary McIntosh; step-daughter Julie Ingram and her husband Carter, as well as Helen Walsh from Mt Dora, FL. John adored his grandchildren (Dakota, Reid, Kayla, Maggie, Gage, Matthew, Michael and Missy). John is also survived by his brother, Tommy Parkerson and his wife, Jackie. He loved all of his nieces and nephews so dearly too. So many family and friends have
loved and lost a very beloved and cherished man. Last but certainly not least, he leaves behind his vocal companion, parakeet Pete.

We cannot begin to thank the Hospice Care Team enough: Kim, Heather, Bill, Mary, and Tony were instrumental in providing care, comfort, and answers in our journey with John.

Per John’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no funeral or memorial service. We know he is dancing in heaven right now!
