John Merrel Kanode, 82, of Christiansburg, VA, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey C. and Lillie Laura Kanode; daughter, Sallie; son-in-law Don; and grandson, Adam.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy V. Kanode; daughters and Spouses, Barbara Alvarez of Shawsville, VA, and Dorothy and Gary Nuckolls of Montgomery, AL; son and daughter-in-law, John “JD” and Susan Kanode of Harrisonburg, VA. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law Alma and Charles “Sonny” Bishop, of Christiansburg; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 4, 2008 from 6 p. m.-8 p. m. at Horne Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 2:00 p. m. in the Horne Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. V. N. McHone officiating, interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg,VA.
