John Foster

John Warren Foster, of Christiansburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem.

He was born in Check in Floyd County. John was a member of Crockett Springs United Methodist Church in Shawsville, VA, and attended Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was employed by the Vought-Sikorsky Aircraft in Trenton, NJ. John retired from Bucks County School System in Levittown, PA. He also retired from Richfield Nursing and Rehab.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Cleveland and Maude Jewell Foster; his first wife, Virginia Ritchie Foster; brothers, Marvin, Edward, Clinton, and Blain; and sisters, Ila Lois, Clyde, Irene, Wanda, and Georgia.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sue Sisson Foster of Christiansburg; daughter, Shelley Foster Wright (Jerry); five granddaughters, Christy Wright Fletcher (Daniel), Amy Wright Bickford (Jeffrey), Rebecca Wright Bailey (Joshua), Kara Wright Bailey (Cory), and Allison Wright; 11 great-grandchildren, all of Hermon, Maine; two step-sons, Daryl Sisson and Scott Sisson of Shawsville; and step-granddaughter, Rebekah Sisson. He is also survived by a sister, Hilda Foster Argabright of Roanoke; many nieces and nephews, whom he considered all special; as well as many good friends and neighbors.

John loved playing golf with his three buddies, Jamie, Calvin, and Ted.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home, with Rev. Lester Kennedy of Fairlawn Grace Brethren Church, Rev. David Mucha of Crockett Springs United Methodist Church, and Rev. Jerry Wright of Hermon, Maine officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the funeral service. A military service and interment will be held at the Southwest Virginia Veterans’ Cemetery, Dublin, following the Chapel service.
